The American Society of Civil Engineers recently recognized the accomplishments of two Texas Section members by inducting them as Distinguished Members, Class of 2011. John E. Breen, Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE, NAE and Dallas N. Little, Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE were formally inducted at the Celebration of Leaders Luncheon on October 20, 2011 in Memphis, during the 141st Annual Civil Engineering Conference. LID Competition Invigorates Development Community to Design for Houston’s Future
The low impact development (LID) competition held in Houston in 2009-2010 prompted local developers and project design companies to take a closer look at the costs and benefits of incorporating LID elements into construction projects. What they found surprised many of them—and will make it more likely that their future projects will contain LID elements. Read more here about the competition and this innovative approach to design.
James H. Brace Bequest
On October 17, 1957, the ASCE Board of Direction accepted a bequest by James H. Brace, M.ASCE, the proceeds of which are available, in nominal sums, to “unemployed and needy engineers” for payment of their ASCE membership dues.
Any unemployed, underemployed or needy engineer should contact ASCE to request a Brace Fund application. If you would like to make a tax-free, charitable donation to the Brace Fund to support engineers who are unemployed or in need, please mail your contribution to: ASCE-Accounting, PO Box 79162, Baltimore, MD 21279-0162. Include “Brace Fund Bequest” in the check memo line and make the check payable to ASCE. You may also call 800-548-2723 to make a contribution.
